Second Trimester Pregnancy Journey: Renewed Energy, Challenges, and Growth

Navigating the Second Trimester

Hello! Welcome back to my blog for post #2 on my pregnancy journey. In this post I share my experience during the second trimester of pregnancy! Be sure to check out my 1st trimester reflections before giving this a read! It’s hard to believe we’ve reached this point. This pregnancy has been a wonderful journey of self-discovery and growth into a new stage of womanhood. From sharing about my job loss to now, it’s incredible to see how much I’ve grown as I prepare to meet my son.

Renewed Energy and Baby Prep

The second trimester brought many changes, especially in terms of energy levels and physical adjustments. After a tiring first trimester, I felt a surge of energy that helped me tackle several important tasks, including preparing the nursery, attending parenting classes, and hosting a beautiful baby shower with family and friends. A significant part of maintaining high energy levels has been staying active. I walk my dog at least twice a day and engage in strength training twice a week using a pregnancy-friendly app called Evlo, which features workouts recorded by a trainer during her own pregnancy.

Challenges and Milestones

This trimester wasn’t without its challenges. My baby was transverse for a while, lying across my pelvis, which caused significant pelvic pain and increased the likelihood of needing a C-section!😨 This news initially overwhelmed me, but I responded by adjusting my exercise routine, incorporating pelvic stretches and using a pregnancy belt to try to reposition the baby. Update to now and the baby is heads down and in position! But, during that time I was super anxious and nervous. To help combat the fear and anxiety I leaned heavily on books, affirmations, and scriptures for support! Check out some of the reads below!

Scripture!

Personally, I have found books that try to focus on how to mentally prepare for birth, how to step into birth without fear and how to really be empowered throughout your whole pregnancy. I have found affirmations, scripture and prayer to be extremely powerful in my journey. It’s been fun to be more reconnected spiritually as this experience to me feels as close to the spirit that I have ever been!

Building a Community: The Importance of Connection

I’ve also grappled with feelings of loneliness and isolation, which seem to intensify during the second trimester. While pregnancy is beautiful, it can also be isolating. Realizing the importance of community, I made efforts to connect with other moms, which was initially daunting due to my preconceived notions about what those friendships would entail. However, engaging with more moms helped break down my misconceptions and underscored the need for a supportive “mom tribe.”From the time I announced my pregnancy, it inevitably shifted the dynamics of some existing friendships, not negatively but being one of the first friends to have a kid can bring quite a lot of change. Through this it highlighted the need for new connections that could relate to my evolving journey into motherhood.

Embracing Change and Looking Forward

As I reflect on the second trimester, the theme of growth and adaptation stands out. Whether it’s the physical expansion of my belly or the broadening of my social circle, this period has been about embracing change and preparing for the new journey ahead. The support from my community, the physical preparations, and the mental adjustments have all been integral to this journey. I am thankful for every moment and look forward to what the third trimester holds. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue to navigate this incredible adventure of motherhood!
